Dai Dai! Go, go, go! An Italian expression that makes you want to get moving. This is precisely the idea that Thomas Fournier wanted to impulse with his new restaurant established since mid-February 2018 at 25 rue Oberkampf, in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, in place of the former Petit Bal Perdu.
At the helm of three-wheelers that can be booked for private events in the capital, the man signs here his first permanent construction. While he remains faithful to the Neapolitan pizzas of his early days, his desire here is to celebrate another Italian tradition: that of the aperitivo.
The principle is simple, and Parisians are starting to get the hang of it: share a moment with colleagues or friends over a drink and sunny plates to share, all in a chic, sober decor blending marble bar and rough wood, plant accents and antique lighting fixtures.
To pay homage to this much-loved practice on the other side of the Alps, Dai Dai has sourced the region's must-try dishes: chiffonade of Parma ham, mortadella with pistachio or the excellent truffle sausage. All of this is accompanied by cicchetti, mini bruschettas served in threes. Not easy to cut, but quite pleasant in the mouth.
The pizzas, thin in the middle and with raised edges, are baked in an imposing gas oven that takes pride of place in the middle of the space. Once again, they can be shared in a convivial atmosphere. Special mention for the tiramisu dessert: hearty, creamy and not too sweet. Just perfect!
Dai Dai also offers a number of mixed salads for lunch, as well as a different pasta dish every day. And while the atmosphere on weekdays is rather quiet, at weekends the place gets livelier... so you can chat with your new table mates too.
