Tucked away in the new TOO Hôtel from the Laurent Taïeb group (which already owns the new Madame Rêve), located in Paris's 13th arrondissement between the BNF and Station F, the recently opened TOO Restaurant is sure to please.
A panoramic restaurant, housed in a 6-metre-high glass cube with a golden ceiling, in one of the Duo Towers, is sure to take your breath away. To discover it, climb to the 25th floor of this 27-storey building, with the TacTac Skybar on the rooftop.
Philippe Starck was responsible forthe decor and design of the space, which he imagined as "a paradox, at once the Montgolfier brothers' Aeronef and the International Space Station .Suspended above Paris, it's not on earth. Filled with energy, dreams, love, desires, intelligence and laughter, it flies up there, where the weather is fine, where rare oxygen makes you dizzy ". Elegance and modernity are the key words that describe this new spot, designed as a castle in the sky by the artist-decorator.
On arrival at Too Restaurant, you discover a chic, modern setting, decorated with taste and elegance. After strolling along the long bar, we discover tables open to all. Discreet alcoves and group tables reveal themselves to us. The most romantic duo tables are arranged to offer a panoramic view of the city. The entire space is transparent, with large bay windows revealing the city of light at our feet. We love the cathedral height, the comfortable leather armchairs for seating and the huge wall and easel paintings that make us feel so small.
In terms of panorama, we're mesmerized by the lively lights of Paris, the glittering Eiffel Tower and the Seine at our feet. We love to try and recognize all the monuments that come into view.
In terms of cuisine, the restaurant offers a world menu with a Japanese accent. Our taste buds are thus taken on a journey. The place is open to us all day long, from breakfast to a romantic sunset dinner, or a convivial lunch with your head in the clouds.
During our visit, we were tempted by the Grilled Artichoke Pepperrades with miso, Granny apple and truffle, and the Soft Crudo of scallops with yuzu jelly, peppery soy sauce and caviar. All accompanied by an exotic non-alcoholic cocktail (because the party's crazier). Well-cooked and rich in flavor, we're having a great time.
Then it's time for the main course. We opt for the incredible Short ribs Angus maturé with its incomparable melting texture and its sake and pepper yakinuku sauce, a wonderful discovery. We also treat ourselves to prawns sautéed with tamarind and cebette, just like in Jakarta.
As for the garnish, the roasted potato with shiso and daikon butter awakens our taste buds (be careful, it's spicy) and we melt for the melting, candiedmiso eggplant.
For dessert, it's up to the king of patisserie, Pierre Hermé, and our favorite artisan, Benoît Castel. Cheese cake, 2000 sheets, chocolate tart or the Bûches we've chosen because they're in season.
In short, if you're looking for a magical setting with Paris at your feet to climb to 7th heaven, here's a restaurant that has a lot going for it. From the Eiffel Tower to the Sacré-Coeur and the Pantheon, this new spot is a true Parisian postcard that we wholeheartedly endorse.
