Gianni, the new pizzeria in the 18th district might surprise you. In addition to tasting delicious pizzas and very good wines, we take advantage of the mini-scene to discover young artists, or improvise ourselves singers or poets the time of an evening. Authentic and warm atmosphere guaranteed!
On the menu, pizzas of course, with thin dough and generous toppings. I chose the Diablo (10€) with a delicious chorizo. Note that the prices of the pizzas are quite reasonable, even unbeatable: at 8,50€ the Margherita, you can't refuse!
I also recommend the chef's secret specialty, which is not on the menu, but which he will be happy to prepare for you: the pizzaiolo's baguette. A pizza topped with tomatoes, mozzarella and Roquefort, rolled and baked, on which he adds arugula, parma ham and cherry tomatoes. A delight that you can't find anywhere else!
Gianni having taken over the cellar of the old restaurant (the Cochon Gaulois), we can taste excellent French wines, which are rarely found in a pizzeria and I tasted a delicious red Sancerre, light and fruity. The cellar will also gradually be filled with Italian wines chosen by Gianni.
Inside, a mini stage is waiting for us to sing, slam, or declare whatever we want. It's free and open. You can tell a funny (or not so funny) story, declare your love, or test your new song. The only rule is that there is no microphone when you speak, so that the room can really listen to what the person has to say. Programming is underway, with artists from the neighborhood, but the goal is to keep the stage open to patrons!
To sit down, several possible atmospheres: some tables of two in the calm of the terrace, but also a big high table inside, ideal to come in tribe or in band of buddies.
Indeed, the key word at Gianni's is conviviality. Kids friendly, the restaurant offers children to make their own pizza, guided by the chef's advice.
From 5pm, it's Zzapi Hours, 10€ for a drink (glass of wine, beer or soda) with a tray of mini pizzas. Ideal with free wifi for a late afternoon business meeting!
Originally from Sardinia where he set up several restaurants, Gianni Paoli then moved to Corsica where he continued to work in the restaurant business. It was during a trip to Paris that he spotted this restaurant in the heart of the 18th district and decided to establish his new quarters there. For the little story, this epicurean in love with the song, is married to the singer Nathalie Cardone, very known for her hit "Hasta Siempre" in homage to Che Guevara. As his wife was recording her third album in Paris, he chose to stay by her side and embark on the Parisian adventure.
A story of love, music and pizza! As the T-Shirt that Gianni wears says: don't look for love, look for pizza!
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
