Do you like concepts? Inventions and new culinary experiences? Then you're going to love The Rice Burger, a charming little restaurant that set up shop, in June 2018, in the 10th arrondissement.
Forget everything you know about the burger. Here, no tomatoes, cheese, salad or pickles but organic Camargue rice worked in place of bread, in the manner of Japanese sushi cake, with turmeric to give it its stunning yellow color.
Inside the burgers, Marie, The Rice Burger's chef, lets her imagination run wild with a whole host of original recipes inspired by her many round-the-world sailing trips.
The autumn menu currently features 7 rice burgers: Japanese (salmon tartar and seaweed, the only rice burger served cold), Veggie (tofu and Asian mushrooms), Greek (spinach, ricotta, feta, grilled zucchini with thyme), Indonesian (chicken satay, Chinese cabbage), the Rice Burger of the moment (Basque chicken, bed of zucchinis and peppers), the Gersois (duck confit, sweet pepper jam) and the Limousin (beef cheek, caramelized butternut).
With the cold outside, we were in the mood for warm, autumnal dishes that reminded us of our grandmothers' good recipes. So, naturally, we turned to the Gersois and Limousin regions. And we weren't disappointed!
The duck confit is worked with sweet pepper jam, while the beef cheek is baked for 8 hours, Burgundian-style, with cinnamon and star anise. We'll let you imagine the thousand flavors that crossed our taste buds. Both were simply delicious, and the way the rice burgers are assembled, all the ingredients are visible from above, and we love that.
We also loved the chef's other small dishes: a super-fresh Vietnamese salad (papaya, peanuts) to accompany our rice burgers, and a butternut/coral lentil/coconut/curry soup that warmed us up...
And let's not forget the desserts, all homemade like the rest of the menu, and downright delicious: walnut/hazelnut/almond brownie, apple/fig jam crumble, lime cake, all-chocolate cookie and raspberry matcha tea financier.
If you're in the area on a weekday lunchtime, and you're looking for a good, home-cooked meal that's accessible to all pockets, don't miss out on The Rice Burger. This surprising and original concept deserves your full gourmet attention.
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
