A new restaurant has just opened in the 5th arrondissement. What's its name? Hébé, named after the goddess, daughter of Zeus and Hera, who served nectar to the gods. Right from the start, the tone is set: at Hébé, you'll enjoy Mediterranean-inspired dishes to share with friends.
Behind the dishes and the inventive menu are two-Michelin-starred chef Michel Portos and executive chef Raphaël Sicsic. And it goes without saying that the products are of the highest quality: the meats come from Metzger, the fish from J'Océane & Reynaud.
Let's take a closer look at the menu, or rather the menus. Hébé has 3 cards, a real 7-family game! On the first, you can choose from starters, main courses and desserts created by Michel Portos. On the second, you can indulge in the 35€ Gourmet Menu, also designed by Michel Portos. Finally, on a third menu, gourmets can choose the Menu du Midi, this time imagined by chef Raphaël Sicsic. Got it all?
To get a taste of both chefs' creations, we opted for a starter, main course and dessert from each of them.
The Michel Portosstarter we voted for? A swordfish and pomelo tartar (16€), perfectly spiced up and highlighting the firmness of the swordfish flesh. As for the other starter, we opted for the ceviche of sea bream, mint, smoked oil; very soft and creamy.
For the main courses, the filet of duckling roasted in sweet and sour sauce, accompanied by pommes grenaille, fig and tarragon (17€) by Michel Portos won us over to the extent that we sauced every last drop of the delicious sauce. Raphaël Sicsic's dish, advertised as ribs, leek fondue and a thyme and green olive sauce, turned out to be more pork chop than ribs, but was tasty all the same.
Finally, for the desserts, it was Michel Portos ' that won the day hands down. Not that we didn't love the tarte Tatin and tonka cream, quite the contrary. But the pear clafoutis, orange caramel and vanilla ice cream (10€) was extremely gourmet. Served in a hot dish, bibimbap-style, the clafoutis stuck and caramelized on the sides; and it was hot just enough that we had to wait a little so as not to devour it all in a few minutes.
In short, if you're out and about in the 5th arrondissement or on the Île de la Cité, make a stop at Hébé. This new restaurant is well worth a stop. What's more, with its lovely sunny terrace, it's sure to welcome you on those chilly winter days!
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
