Do you know castella? This pastry of Portuguese origin has finally arrived in Paris, at Fu Castella, a charming boutique-tea room. We bet you'll love this fine, moist cake!
Tucked away on the noisy Boulevard de l'Hôpital, in the 13th arrondissement, is a new Japanese pastry shop with a yellow shopfront that will take you to the clouds. Literally.

Fu Castella's specialty is castella. Don't know what it is? We'll explain: castella is a derivative of the Japanese sponge cake, which has its origins in a Portuguese cake, the pão de Castela.

Introduced and popularized in Japan and Taiwan, castella has finally arrived in France, and you're going to love it! Because castella is a cake as light and fluffy as a cloud. The recipe is a closely guarded secret, but one thing's for sure: at Fu Castella, they're made from organic French flours, fruit and local produce.

At Fu Cast ella, several castella recipes are available, in large or mini format!

Savoury castellas :

  • Double Fromage
  • Sesame/Cheese
  • Dried Meat/Cheese

Sweet castella :

  • Traditional
  • Chocolate
  • Coffee/Nuts
  • Takesumi (vegetable charcoal)
  • Matcha tea/red beans
And for the more adventurous, don't forget the durian castella, the famous fruit known for its unpleasant smell. We personally loved it!
Serve with a coffee, one of the many teas available in the patisserie, a homemade iced tea, an aloe vera juice or a bubble tea made on the premises!

What's more, we strongly advise you to try out the tea time package for two, available every day from 3pm to 6pm, to sample as many flavors as possible! For €16, you get a choice of two drinks, 5 mini castellas and toppings to complement the castellas: fruit, whipped cream, nuts, custard, crème caramel, passion fruit cream... Yum!
Sweet tooths and fans of pastry novelties, you'll love these refined castellas.

Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
