For lovers of East Asian flavors, here's the secret address that invites you on a culinary road-trip, all at an ultra-affordable price. This neighborhood nugget nestled in a gallery on the Champs-Elysées is a long-standing address where a veritable ballet of regulars takes place every day. To find this hidden gem of a restaurant , you need to enter the Galerie Berry-Washington, via 14 rue de Washington. It's here that you'll need to look out for a stand surrounded by high-top tables called the Jonque d'Or. In this cheerful, gourmet counter, customers are called by their first name, and Seav, the warm-hearted owner, wanders from table to table, enquiring benevolently about their well-being.
"Where do you want me to take you?" That's how we set the scene at La Jonque d'Or restaurant. This well-known address in the corner office has been delighting Parisians for over 30 years. The torch has now been passed on to the second generation, with Seav and Michel, the two children who have taken over the business with brio. The recipe remains the same: a journey to the four corners ofEast Asia, with lovingly concocted recipes and dishes priced at just €10. Choose your destination and let's go for a taste trip in this secret cantine!
For starters, don't miss the crispy egg rolls, perfect for whetting your appetite. If you're looking for a more comforting dish, then don't miss the soups, including the shrimp soup, just spiced up so that all palates can enjoy the spicy side of the dishes without having their throats on fire for the more sensitive.
Throughout the week, you'll find beef, chicken, shrimp and pork dishes, with recipes inspired by Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam. Bo-Bûn is also included! It's worth noting that here, the chicken and beef are halal, while the pork usually found in Cantonese rice is replaced by turkey.
At the same time, there are daily specials. It's enough to make us want to come back again and again to discover these specialties throughout the week. During our visit on a Thursday, we were tempted by a Thai-style steamed stuffed crab (surimi) served with Cantonese rice. It was a real favorite! Although it's a fairly hearty dish, the gourmet side of things encouraged us not to leave a single crumb: the stuffed crab's melt-in-the-mouth texture and spicy notes provided a welcome dose of comfort as the cold reigned outside. Accompany it with a large bowl of jasmine tea, and your taste buds will be conquered.
To round off this gourmet escapade withexcellent value for money, we recommend you save room for dessert, and more specifically for the apple and coconut cake: quite light and relatively unsweetened, it lets the flavor of the fruit take center stage and adds just the right finishing touch to this authentic meal at an address that puts its heart into it!
