Located in the 14th arrondissement of Paris - towards Denfert-Rochereau, for those in the know - the Musée de la Libération offers an insight into French life during the Second World War, with a wealth of objects, clothing, stories and documentaries that plunge visitors into the years when France was occupied, and then behind the scenes of the liberation. This visit is best suited to children aged 8 and over, who will gain a better understanding of what was at stake in this part of our shared history.
From October 19 to November 3, 2024, the Musée de la Libération is organizing a number of activities to introduce families to its collections, including the screening of an animated film based on real historical events, as well as a guided tour to immerse the whole family in what life was like in France during the Second World War. It's also the perfect time to discover the permanent collections of the Musée de la Libération with the visit companion, a free application to download onto your smartphone, offering a dedicated tour for families (9 years and over). Even more unusual, you can now visit the command post used during the Liberation by Colonel Henri Rol, leader of the FFI (Forces françaises de l'intérieur) in the Paris region, located twenty meters beneath the museum (from 12 years)!
How about a family trip to the Musée de la Libération during the All Saints' Day vacation of 2024 ?
The walls are talking (virtual reality experience)
"Equipped with headphones, you are in a prison cell. Cracks pulsating with light and sound encourage the participant to move closer to the walls. As you look more closely at the cracks, graffiti appears. A man's name, a declaration of love, a heart stamped with two first names appear on the walls. Then a woman's face is etched on a wall, triggering a memory. Wisps of dust escape the graffiti and begin to agglomerate in the cell, until they form a female silhouette. What is she doing there? Who is the participant? She seems to have escaped from a happy memory. She knows nothing of what happened to Louis Jaconelli, her young lover. A Resistance fighter, Louis was arrested by the Germans and held in this cell."
