An opportunity to discover what goes on behind the scenes at one of Paris' legendary cinemas... For the 36th edition of the Journées du Patrimoine, the Cinéma Max Linder is inviting Parisians and other lovers of the 7th art to discover its establishment on September 22, 2019. Lovers of dark rooms will be able to visit the cinema as well as the projection booth, and watch a demonstration.
A cinema with a rather discreet front on the Grands Boulevards, yet with a history rooted right down to its baseboards and woodwork. Formerly known as the Kosmorama, the establishment was bought in 1914 by burlesque actor Max Linder, who inaugurated it on March 21, 1919. At the time, the cinema was one of the most modern in Europe. Just before the war, the cinema was taken over by Pathé in 1932, then renovated in 1957. Today, it is the last cinema with a single panoramic screen. It measures 107 m2.
A huge room, with 557 velvet seats, wallpapered walls and Venetian stucco balconies in the style of the 1930s... It's a decor steeped in history that visitors will be able to discover for the very first time, as this is the first time the Cinéma Max Linder has taken part in the Journées du Patrimoine. Please note that tours are only available on Sundays from 10am to 1pm. An opportunity to take a closer look at one of the last and most beautiful cinemas on the Grands Boulevards... Let's go and discover the 7th art, folks?
