Immerse yourself in the world of La Sauvegarde de l'Art Français!
On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, La Sauvegarde de l'Art Français is exceptionally opening the doors of its offices, nestled in an unusual setting: the family apartment of the famous artist Michel-Victor Cruchet (1815-1899).
We invite you to visit the historic Nouvelle-Athènes district, which in the 19th century experienced a period of great cultural effervescence. Attracted by the district's dynamism, the Parisian intellectual and artistic elite moved here and built sumptuous private mansions.
Number 22 rue de Douai is no exception! Completed in 1862, the Hôtel Halévy was home to some of the greatest names in French art. Bizet, Delacroix and Scheffer all found it a pleasant place to live and an ideal place for inspiration.
When you walk through the doors of La Sauvegarde de l'Art Français, you'll meet people who devoted their lives to art and culture. The foundation's teams will guide you from room to room, sharing with you the story and expertise of Michel-Victor Cruchet, ornamentist and woodcarver, master of the "carton-pierre" technique. You will also discover the fight for heritage by Edouard Mortier, Duke of Treviso and founder of La Sauvegarde de l'Art Français.
For over 100 years, our foundation has passionately pursued its actions in favor of the preservation and restoration of French heritage.
Book your tour and let yourself be carried away by the eclecticism of this unique place!
