The Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days) is the major cultural event not to be missed in September. It's a flagship event for which the entire Paris region is delighted to lend its support. And with good reason: this cultural event invites us to explore our heritage from every angle over the course of a weekend. For this 41st edition, the dates are September 21 and 22. On this occasion, a wide range of visits, often free of charge and accompanied by events, await you in Paris and the Paris region. Museums, monuments, churches, libraries and châteaux- many well-known and little-known treasures reveal their secrets on this occasion. Exceptional visits are also planned to places normally closed to the public, including ministries, embassies and major institutions.
It's the perfect time to explore the heritage of the Paris region, particularly in Seine-et-Marne, where heritage nuggets abound. In the 77 department, the town of Monceaux-le-Meaux boasts a fascinating historic site: the Château Royal de Montceaux, also known as the Château des Trois Reines. Acquired in the 16th century by Catherine de Médicis, this estate later became the property of King Henri IV and was offered to Marie de Médicis on the birth of Louis XIII. It was destroyed shortly after the French Revolution, but many vestiges of this Seine-et-Marne heritage treasure remain.
On the program: a stone-cutter's workshop, a traditional games area and an exhibition.
Take the opportunity to stroll through the majestic and inspiring ruins of this royal chateau in a unique green setting: a castle of queens with imposing architecture, at the heart of French history and the Renaissance.
For the European Heritage Days, at 2pm and 5pm, the owners will help you understand and discover the history of this place, which was at the heart of the Renaissance and the history of France through its queens (Catherine de Médicis, Marie de Médicis and Gabrielle d'Estrée), its kings (Henri II, Henri III, Henri IV, Louis XIII), its architecture and its role in the Wars of Religion. The tour ends with a visit to the Château Chapel, whose altar was donated by Louis XIV.
