Recently named Edouard Philippe’s successor as Prime Minister, Jean Castex has shared his goals and priorities in an interview with the JDD. Ecology, reform of pensions, and even Ségur de la Santé, Mister Deconfinement tells everything.

From Mister Deconfinement to Prime Minister, Jean Castex is facing many challenges. Recently named, he will have to take up the challenge to relaunch the economic in the midst of a health crisis that is not over yet. In an interview with the JDD released this Sunday July 5, 2020, Edouard Philippe’s successor told more about his new part and the stakes of the recovery: “Beyond the situation, we shall draw lessons from this crisis and turn it into an opportunity to make our country stronger than before and contribute to an economic, ecological, and social upturn”.

But what are the priorities of this new government? Among the priorities named by the new Prime Minister are major files: the reform of pensions, as well as the Ségur de la Santé – to update the health system – being two conundrums Jean Castex intends to solve on a short-term basis, saying “the support to health caregivers and the transformation of our health system as part of the Ségur I will conclude next week”. Another big preoccupation of the Prime Minister being employment during a period of time jeopardizing the economic and the companies’ health.

After giving encouraging data as for unemployment and the growth prior to the coronavirus epidemic, he says “ecology remains at the heart of our preoccupations” before adding: “the preservation of the republican order and the daily safety are not negotiable. The epidemic showed the imperative need to find an economic sovereignty and go towards a less unequal society. We shall go further”.
