As the month of December draws nearer, and Christmas gift-giving begins, some recipients of the Christmas Bonus are wondering when it will be paid out, and how much it will cost in 2023! This exceptional lump-sum payment will be made from December 15 to the most modest households - some 2.3 million beneficiaries - to help them finance the festive season.
The amount remains unchanged since 2009. However, it is calculated solely on the basis of family or social situation, and not on income. The amount varies from 152.45 euros for a single person without children, to 442.10 euros for a couple with four children. A married couple without children can receive 228.67 euros, while a couple with two children can benefit from 320.14 euros.
But who is eligible? The Christmas bonus has been distributed to certain recipients of minimum social benefits since 1998, when it was created by the Jospin government. More specifically, these are people who, in November or December, received the revenu de solidarité active (RSA), or the prime forfaitaire pour reprise d'activité (flat-rate bonus for resuming work), the allocation de solidarité spécifique (ASS), or the allocation équivalent retraite (AER). You should also be aware that people who have received public training compensation (RPS), business start-up and takeover assistance (ACRE-ASS) or Pôle emploi training compensation (RFPE) are also eligible.
If you're one of these people, how can you get your Christmas bonus? You don't need to do anything. As the public service website explains, the bonus is distributed automatically by the CAF, MSA or Pôle Emploi, depending on your situation!
