MEPs accuse the executive of mismanaging the health crisis. This Wednesday December 2, 2020, the National Assembly’s committee of inquiry delivers a first report on the managing of the Covid-19 pandemic by the competent bodies. Parliamentarians included in the committee condemn “failing crisis managing” by the government.
This statement arrives after six months of hearings. Health Minister, former Prime Minister, head of health authorities: all in all, “130 hours of hearings and over 50 hearings” have been conducted since June. Les Républicains group leader Damien Abad – who wrote the report – states France was “poorly armed” before the Covid-19 epidemic broke out. Furthermore, he confirms the inquiry committee has passed the report by voting.
As for MEPs of the majority, they refrained from voting. “We could not vote for a biased and incomplete report, and we of course regret it absolutely does not show the quality of the hearings and debates we led” head of the committee Julien Borowczyk says. “We wish anyone can get access to the report and evidences, in the greatest transparency: this is why we refrained from voting” he explains during a press brief. The investigation report is expected to be official released on December 7, 2020.
