After Christmas, France is preparing to celebrate New Year's Eve amid the coronavirus epidemic. As the Holidays are coming, more and more French have decided to get tested to be able to meet with their families for this festive time. And the countdown has begun for NYE. With three days to go before, party favors and other fireworks are ready, champagne is chilling and only waits to be popped up… And you still have not found time to get tested!
Do not panic, it is not too late. On the contrary, it is the perfect time to get tested. The Scientific Committee has released recommendations to comply with to minimize risks of spreading Covid-19 during the Holidays. They say the best period to be tested is between Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday before New Year's Eve – if we consider you have your New Year's Eve party on December 31, 2020.
Symptomatic or not, testing before NYE is recommended. Furthermore, if you show symptoms for less than three days, you can get a quick antigenic test. Otherwise, you can have a PCR test. Anyway, you will have to stay isolated while you wait for the result. Careful though: as Olivier Véran says, a negative test is no immunity totem. You will have to be careful during the Holidays 2020. And for good reason, as our peers from RFI say: "nothing tells you that you are not infected, but in the incubation period or you have not caught Covid-19 when living the laboratory or the pharmacy".
You shall remain careful. For the record, the first pre-Holiday test for Christmas was successful, since the number of tests performed nationwide increased dramatically before Christmas Eve leading to 2.5 million people tested.
