Coronavirus: what is the strategy for the third wave in Paris?

As Parisians are celebrating the Holidays, a third wave of the coronavirus epidemic is said to break from January 2021 out. In Paris, what is the strategy to curb the spread of Covid-19?

A third wave after the Holidays? This is a prospect the health authorities fear, including in Île-de-France. This new step in the evolution of the coronavirus epidemic is foreseen for January 2021, as France will be in the middle of the first step of the vaccine campaign. Therefore, what is the strategy to curb this new increase in cases in Paris?

In an interview with Le Parisien, health delegate deputy mayor Anne Souyris gives a few details about the strategy considered in Paris to try and halt the resurgence of the epidemic. For instance, she wishes to prepare the return of students to school in January by dividing classrooms in two.

So far, in Paris, the Health delegate deputy mayor describes a slight resurgence of the epidemic despite the extended closure of cultural venues, bars, restaurants, and cafés. “I don’t see how the Holidays, when there are many family reunions, will enable to lower all these indicators” she said.

In addition to the third wave, January 2021 is marked by the first step of the vaccine campaign debuting on December 27, 2020. On that matter, Paris city hall has already prepared the field to make this new step in the fight against the coronavirus epidemic as smooth as possible.
