If the government decides to implement new tightened measures on a nationwide basis, are the French ready to accept it? According to the latest survey conducted by Elabe and released this Wednesday March 31, 2021 by BFMTV, 54% of the French are for a new strict nationwide lockdown.
The same day, French President is to deliver a televised address from 8 p.m. to speak about tightening measures about "schools and trips", a source close to the case told. Schools are to close from this Friday and trips be even more restricted.
The survey reads that 70% of the French are now for a lockdown of the hardest-hit regions. Within the 19 departments involved in lockdown since Saturday March 20, 60% of the surveyed are also for a lockdown, after the strategy of "curbing without locking down", instated for almost two weeks now.
Furthermore, the survey focuses on the French's feeling about the anticipation of lockdown measures by the government since the beginning of 2021. To the question "do you think with the decision of not implementing strict lockdown over the past week, we have 'lost time' or 'borrowed time'?", 66% of the surveyed think the lack of anticipation made the country lost time amid the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
At the same time, as for the more than likely closure of schools, 59% of the French are for the closure of high schools, and 57% for the closure of junior high schools. But, only a small majority (51%) of the people surveyed wish to let kindergartens and primary schools open.
