In France, salaries it is still possible to transfer salaries to the account of a “representative authorized by the employee”, but it can also lead to downward slides, former Secretary of the Interior now LREM leader at the National Assembly Christophe Castaner says.
In an interview with Le Parisien – issued this Saturday February 13, 2021 – he addressed the fight against inequalities and even though he got around the equal opportunity matter – “a battle we have been fighting since 2017”, the town councilor says – he questions economic violence done to women. “When your partner embezzles your income or your credit card, what is left of your self-reliance?” the former Secretary of the Interior wonders.
Therefore, he will propose a draft bill in the week of March 8 to make transferring salaries to the account to the name of the employee mandatory, namely to the name of the female employee that could be mistreated. The goal is then to enable her economic self-reliance. And this date has not been left to chance because it is the very day of International Women’s Day.
This fight against economic violence is not new. For the record, before 1907, married women could not have their salaries at their disposal as it was given to their husbands. Therefore, they had to be authorized by their husbands to work. It is only in 1965 that women become emancipated from this husbandly authority and are then free to work as they wish. The same year, they have been allowed to open a bank account to their own name.
