According to general practitioners, Jérôme Salomon makes an “inconceivable decision”. This Monday March 8, 2021, MG France – main union of French general practitioners – issued a statement demanding Health Director General Pr. Jérôme Salomon’s resignation.
Why do GPs demand Salomon’s resignation as he presents the epidemiologic situation report weekly? Originating the conflict between the union and the professor, an email from the health general management (DGS). An email sent to all French GPs stating that pharmacies were given priority for AstraZeneca vaccine dose delivery (at least this week). Consequently, this decision from the DGS demands general practitioners to cancel appointments already made with their patients as they are still not allowed to get access to vaccine.
In concrete words, Salomon’s team details: “Note that for the week of March 8, delivery will only open to pharmacies’ own needs, it will not be possible to make order for doctors given the number of doses delivered by AstraZeneca (about 28,000 vials available to order)”, the release highlights. A decision judged “inconceivable” by MG France representatives as Salomon considers it is “necessary to divert doses secured for GPs to pharmacies”.
The only compensation granted to general practitioners: being paid homage by the head of DGS, hailing in the release doctors’ investment as they are said to have vaccinated “200,000 people in five days”, the release reads.
