Could Île-de-France be placed in lockdown this week? As hospitals are urged to cancel surgeries, this Tuesday March 9, 2021, French Health Director General Jérôme Salomon says lockdown is not topical for the Paris area.

Is Île-de-France to be placed into weekend lockdown starting March 13, 2021? As the entire region is placed in strengthened surveillance and two departments have exceeded the 400-case-for-100,000-inhabitant-threshold, Île-de-France inhabitants might be placed in lockdown. Furthermore, Île-de-France hospitals and clinics have been ordered to cancel 40% of their activity to be able to attend Covid patients in intensive care units.

Do these elements suggest pending lockdown in the area? This Tuesday March 9, 2021, the day before the Defense Council, Jérôme Salomon was interviewed by RTL. The Health Director General assured Île-de-France was the region under the most thorough surveillance. Yet, he says that for the time being “lockdown in Île-de-France is not topical”, adding this measure is to be implemented as a last resort only, “if we feel hospitals are not going to hold on”.
