As the Easter break is coming, many French are wondering where to escape to for a few days. Bad news if they were expecting to stay in one of the EU countries since traveling conditions are made harder in several of these countries. This is the case of Portugal. Starting April 1, 2021, travelers coming from France will have to “comply with 14-day prophylactic self-isolation period, at their homes or a place designed by the Portuguese health authorities”.
In addition to this compulsory quarantine, Portugal also requires a “negative RT-PCR test less than 72 hours old when boarding”, the Minister of Foreign Affairs website reads, also stating that sole trips for essential matters are allowed to Portugal.
Why is this 14-day quarantine about to become compulsory for travelers coming from France? This new measure applies to country with an incidence rate equal or above 500 cases of 100,000 inhabitants the French Foreign Office explains.
The Office website also reads that land border controls between Portugal and Spain have been re-established. “Road, train, and fluvial circulation between both countries is suspended, excluding freight transport, cross-border workers, and necessary trips (justified work-related matters, people living outside Portugal leaving, health emergencies, and family reunion up to the first degree of kinship)”.
This Tuesday March 30, Italy has also announced to impose quarantine to travelers coming from EU countries.
