As France has just halted flights from and to Brazil, this Monday April 19, 2021, the French government is expected to present new travel restrictions with the most at-risk countries.

Are conditions to travel abroad about to go harder? This is what the government spokesperson announced. After the latest ministerial council on April 14, 2021, Gabriel Attal stated new and stronger measures will be presented this Monday April 19, 2021 as for travels from and to countries the hardest-hit by the Coronavirus epidemic. These new measures will mean “extra travel restrictions”, as well as “more restrictive measures to self-isolating people who would enter our country from these countries”, he said, this Wednesday.

This morning, the French President asked the government to build a coherent strategy that will be presented this upcoming Monday, aiming at planning tougher measures inspired by what we’re currently doing with Brazil”, Attal added.

So, what countries could be targeted by these new restrictions? It involves territories where “a particularly risky variant dominates”, as well as countries facing a “boom in or a very strong dynamic of the epidemic”, he detailed.

Yet, France will “still give the possibility to (its) citizens who are in these countries to be repatriate to (its) territory”, the government spokesman added.

What about Brazil’s neighbor, French Guiana? On that matter, Attal said that measures made as for halting all flights from and to Brazil “of course lead to measures strengthening border controls between Brazil and French Guiana”.
