This April 1st, Jean Castex announced that drinking alcohol was now banned in the streets in order to prevent gatherings in parks or in front of bars. This ban is added to compulsory facemask-wearing and the ban of gathering over 6 people in public places. A measure instated Saturday April 3.

This Thursday April 1, French Prime Minister entered the fray at the National Assembly, following Emmanuel Macron’s address on the latest measures announced the day before. He detailed the new restrictions implemented in France to curb the third coronavirus epidemic wave washing ashore. And we must say Castex has caned the behavior of some people “thinking they might be invincible to the devastating effects of the disease”: “whether it involves gathering, breaking curfew or refusal to wear facemask, they shall be warned and punished”.

Already instated in several areas in Paris, drinking alcohol is now banned in public places, all over France. Prefects are also allowed – “in relationship with mayors” – to ban “the access to some sites conducive to outdoor gatherings, such as riverbanks, quays, squares, depending on the local circumstances”. All this in order to limit festive gatherings leading to decreasing vigilance as for health guidelines.

Faced with offenses, Jean Castex has said he asked the Secretary of the Interior to “increase the number of police officers assigned to this task. […] It will be asked to prosecutors to systematically sue offenders as for hosting clandestine events likely to jeopardize people’s lives”, he said. These limitations are to be instated at least for four weeks, starting this Saturday.
