A situation calling for new measures, including facemask-wearing outdoor being compulsory again. This Monday December 27, 2021, at the end of the exceptional health defense council, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced the restriction was to be only applied to city-centers.

Since Friday December 31, 2021, facemask-wearing is eventually compulsory in almost the entire Île-de-France. Yet, two weeks later, the law has called illegal the implementation of the measure in some areas. Although the decree has been halted in Yvelines and Paris, now rules should be the same for all departments, according to the release of the Paris prefecture.
Facemask-wearing is to be compulsory in the following places:
- Markets, flea markets, garage sales, sale on temporary premises
- Gatherings, protests, meetings, or any activity gathering 10+ people, held in the street
- Waiting areas in public transit, especially bus and tramway stops and their immediate vicinity
- Around railway stations and entrances to shopping malls at opening hours
- Around schools or colleges, at opening and closing hours
- Around places of workship at opening and closing hours during services and ceremonies
- Queues in the public area
