New Year’s Eve in Paris: places where gatherings and alcohol-drinking are banned

As France is about to celebrate the New Year 2022, in Paris, the Police Prefecture announced measures and restrictions to supervise alcohol-drinking in the street. Here are places alcohol-drinking is banned.

This year again, the New Year 2022 is celebrated with the coronavirus epidemic in the background. On the eve of the new year, measures and restrictions are instated in order to limit risks related to Covid-19 for the traditional New Year’s Eve parties. In Paris, the Police Prefecture has unveiled measures to be applied on New Year’s Eve as far as it involves alcohol-drinking in the street.

Gatherings “leading to alcohol-drinking” are banned in the city, authorities considering “alcoholic drink group-drinking, for their festive and social character, can originate gatherings of people, and lead to a lack of health guidelines”, or be fined €135.

Starting from Friday December 31, 2021, from 6 p.m. to January 1, 2022, at 6 a.m., alcohol-drinking and selling are banned in Parisian places usually crowded on New Year’s Eve. Including the following venues:

- Seine riverbanks: left and right banks, between the Pont des Arts and the Pont de Sully, Île de la Cité banks, and Île Saint-Louis banks

- Paris city center: Place du Bourg-Tibourg, Place Sainte-Catherine, rue des Hospitalières-Saint-Gervais, rue des Petits Carreaux, Place Joachim-du-Bellay

- 5^th arrondissement: Place de la Contrescarpe

- 6^th arrondissement: Rue de Buci

- 7^th arrondissement: Esplanade des Invalides

- 8^th arrondissement: perimeter delimited by the following streets: rue de Tilsitt, rue de Presbourg, rue Vernet, rue Quentin Bauchart, rue François 1er, Avenue Montaigne, rue Bayard, Place François 1er, rue Goujon, rue du Général Eisenhower, Avenue Winston Churchill, Cours la Reine, Place de la Concorde, rue Boissy d’Anglas, rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, rue d’Aguesseau, rue de Surène, Place des Saussaies, rue Cambacérès, rue de Penthièvre, Avenue Matignon, rue de Ponthieu, rue de Berri, rue d’Artois, rue Washington, rue Chateaubriand, rue Lord Byron, Avenue de Friedland
