It's back to the traditional income tax return, with the campaign starting on April 11, 2024. Here's a rundown of the dates not to be missed if you want to avoid a surcharge!

Every year, it's the same for the millions of tax households in France. It's time to file your 2024 income tax return, as the campaign began on April 11, 2024. The timetable varies from department to department, but here are the dates you shouldn't forget this year.

At the beginning of April, you'll need to complete and validate your income tax return. For taxpayers living in départements 1 to 19, the deadline is May 23. If you live in zone 2 (départements 20 to 54), you need to finalize your return by May 30. Finally, departments 55 to 976, including Paris, must declare before June 6. If you fail to meet these deadlines, you may be liable to a surcharge of 10% of your tax bill.

This declaration must be made online via the impots.gouv.fr website, with the exception of a few taxpayers, who must return it in paper format by May 21, 2024. As last year, the declaration is simplified. You will receive your tax notice in July.

The calendar to remember

  • April 11: start of the tax return campaign
  • May 21: deadline for filing paper returns
  • May 23 at midnight: online declaration deadline for departments 1 to 19
