On the road to vacation, the Vinci Autoroutes Foundation is setting up ephemeral libraries and offering thousands of books, from July 13 to August 19, 2023, on freeway service areas.
Libraries on the freeway, that's something to surprise holidaymakers who stop for a coffee break! From July 13 to August 19, 2023, the Vinci Autoroutes Foundation is once again providing ephemeral libraries for holidaymakers on weekends at ten freeway service areas across France. The "Reading is travelling; travelling is reading" operation is sponsored this year by the author Karine Tuil.
In the freeway service areas, the curious leave free of charge with the novel or children's book of their choice from among the fourteen works selected by the novelist. Enough to satisfy both young and old readers! For a break before getting back on the road, small open-air reading rooms are even set up at rest areas. François-Brice Hincker, spokesman for the Vinci Autoroutes Foundation, is pleased that "we are bringing literature to the general public, offering an invitation to read with a selection for all audiences and all ages, from grandchildren to grandparents.
This operation also aims to offer drivers a time of rest, with a real
road safety issue. In addition to the chosen book, holidaymakers leave with a
special bookmark containing advice on how to avoid drowsiness and inattention at the wheel.
Karine Tuil will be present on July 13 at the Limours-Janvry service area to meet traveler-readers, sign books and exchange with them.
