Where is the student life the most expensive? A few days prior to the beginning of university year, the UNEF (the National Union of Students of France) unveils the 2022 ranking of the most expensive French cities for students. Without surprise, Paris is on the first step of the podium.

In which city does the student life cost the most? The answer is brought by the national students’ union UNEF that unveil this August 22 in Ouest-France their 2022 ranking of the most expensive university cities in France. And no one will be surprised to hear Paris is the leader. In the city, a student has to spend an average €1,332.52 per month.

Although Ile-de-France includes most of universities, 7 more cities in Île-de-France are listed in the top 10 most expensive cities for students. After Paris come Nanterre and Saint-Denis – respectively 2nd and 3rd – followed by Créteil (4th), Orsay (5th), Guyancourt (6th), Cergy (8th) and Champ-sur-Marne (10th). Note Nice (7th) and Lyon (9th) are also listed.

What about the least expensive French city for students? It is Le Mans, where a student spends an average €850.44 per month.

Tweet reads: “The cost of living for students rises by 6.47% in 2022! As student precarity is still going strong, difficulties go on with a booming cost of living because of the inflation.”

The UNEF says the cost of living for a student increases by 6.47% in 2022. The students’ union goes further explaining this increase is even bigger than the inflation in 20 cities out of 47! The most impressive growth involves the city of Angers (+11.42%).
