In which city does the student life cost the most? The answer is brought by the national students’ union UNEF that unveil this August 22 in Ouest-France their 2022 ranking of the most expensive university cities in France. And no one will be surprised to hear Paris is the leader. In the city, a student has to spend an average €1,332.52 per month.
Although Ile-de-France includes most of universities, 7 more cities in Île-de-France are listed in the top 10 most expensive cities for students. After Paris come Nanterre and Saint-Denis – respectively 2nd and 3rd – followed by Créteil (4th), Orsay (5th), Guyancourt (6th), Cergy (8th) and Champ-sur-Marne (10th). Note Nice (7th) and Lyon (9th) are also listed.
What about the least expensive French city for students? It is Le Mans, where a student spends an average €850.44 per month.

The UNEF says the cost of living for a student increases by 6.47% in 2022. The students’ union goes further explaining this increase is even bigger than the inflation in 20 cities out of 47! The most impressive growth involves the city of Angers (+11.42%).
