For the past 6 years, users of the metro 4 have been enduring the work related to theautomation of the line, especially in the evening and on Sundays. This Monday, September 12, 2022, the first automatic trains will finally be put into service, without any driver, between the recently opened Bagneux station and the Porte de Clignancourt station.
In recent weeks, tests have been carried out with empty automatic trains. Line 4 of the Paris metro is beginning its automation in real life, with only four driverless trains, for the moment, inserted in daily traffic. By the end of 2023, all the trains on the line will be automatic, seven years after work began . Line 4 is the second busiest line in Paris, with nearly 700,000 passengers per day.
The 52 old trains on line 4 will not be abandoned, however, and will be used on line 6, whose models are very old and less and less adapted. 20 new trains will arrive on line 4 and 32 from line 14 will join the whole. The automation of the line will thus make it possible to add more trains during rush hour and avoid 70% of the delays, according to RATP.
