This Thursday, January 18, 2024, until 10 a.m., Paris and the whole of the Île-de-France region are under a vigilance orange for "snow-ice". The snow did indeed fall on the roofs and sidewalks of Paris, but also everywhere else in the Île-de-France region, on Wednesday night. The consequences? Roads are currently closed in the region, while several public transport services are disrupted, with buses at a standstill and traffic disrupted on the RER C and some tramway lines. We take stock of the situation.

As far as public transport is concerned, there are currently no snow-related disruptions on the Paris metro network. On line 13, however, traffic is disrupted between Montparnasse Bienvenue and Gabriel Péri, and between Montparnasse Bienvenue and Porte de Saint-Ouen " due to a signal failure ". RATP estimates that traffic will resume at 8:00 am.

On the RER, difficulties are being experienced on the RER C, where traffic is disrupted between Versailles Chantiers and Massy - Palaiseau due to snowfall. Trains are also disrupted on the RER C between Saint-Quentin en Yvelines - Montigny-le-Bretonneux and Viroflay Rive Gauche. Trains are expected to resume at around 10:00 a.m. Finally, still on the RER C, the stop at Saint-Martin d'Étampes is not served. Here, the estimated time of return to normal is 8:30 a.m.

On RER D, traffic is currently slow between Orry la Ville and Corbeil Essonnes via Evry Courcouronnes, and between Goussainville and Melun.

As for RER lines A, B and E, disruptions are also forecast on all these lines, with several slowdowns in particular.

What about the Transilien lines? At present, due to the snowfall, traffic is severely disrupted on part of the network, namely on lines H, J and K. On line L, traffic is disrupted between Maisons-Laffitte and Gare Saint-Lazare, while train traffic is interrupted on the whole of line N.

The tramway network was not spared. Traffic is disrupted on the T6, T10 and T11. There were also slowdowns and disruptions on T1, T5, T7 and T8.

Finally, as regards the bus network, RATP indicated at 6 a.m. that "due to weather conditions", no bus lines were currently running on the network. Please consult the RATP website or app for further information.

There are also reports of disruption on the roads in the Paris region this Thursday morning. The Île-de-France road authority has called on motorists to postpone their journeys"as far as possible".

For the time being, the specialist website Sytadin is noting difficulties on the A1, with the closure of the off-ramp to the Boulevard Périphérique on the outer carriageway (P. Chapelle) in the province-Paris direction. Sytadin also announces the closure of the N2 towards Paris at Dammartin-en-Goële, then in the provincial direction at Dammartin-en-Goële.

For its part, Bison Futé has issued a reminder of the best thing to do in the event of black ice or snow on the roads. Motorists are advised to adapt their speed to the road conditions, and in any case not to exceed the speed limits, which are lowered when the road surface is wet: " 110 km/h on freeways (instead of 130 km/h), 100 km/h on ring roads (instead of 110 km/h), 80 km/h on roads outside built-up areas (instead of 90 km/h) ", says Bison Futé.

It is also advisable to " significantly " increase safety distances. In addition, in the event of a blocked or approaching road, it is advisable not to continue your journey. " Stop ahead of any difficulties. Don't abandon your vehicle; wait for instructions from the emergency services. On freeways, do not park on the hard shoulder, stay in the right-hand lane, unless otherwise instructed by the emergency services or variable message signs " indicates Bison Futé.
