Every day, as Parisians, Île-de-France inhabitants and tourists flock on the metro, workers are working hard underground to complete the Grand Paris Express works. The worksite of the third public transportation network in Île-de-France is huge and long. The progressive opening of Grand Paris Express is scheduled between 2024 and 2030 with the opening of 68 new stations. Unfortunately, works got delayed and the automatic metro of Grand Paris Express will not be done by 2030, as initially expected. This is what Jean-François Monteils told AFP this past December 20, 2022. “We won’t make it to 2030, we’ll change the deadline for the opening of the last two segments” of the line 15, SGP chairman said speaking of a “likely time lag of a few months”.
But what about the extension of metro line 14 from Saint-Denis Pleyel, north of Paris, to Orly airport, South of Paris? On that matter, "we are perfectly on time", Monteils claims.
For the record, the extension of metro line 14 is to be complete in 2024, shortly before the Paris Olympics. As for the North part, the line 14 will be extended to Saint-Denis Pleyel after being already extended to Mairie de Saint-Ouen. As for the South, the extension is bigger, with 7 new stations to Orly Airport. Metro line 14 will cross Kremlin-Bicêtre, Villejuif, Chevilly-Larue and even Thiais. All in all, the southern line 14 of Grand Paris Express will connect eight stations, from Olympiades to Orly airport in only 16 minutes!
To date, the exact opening day of the 8 new stations has not been unveiled. But the extension of metro line 14 to North and South is confirmed to 2024, shortly before the Paris Olympics begin on July 26th.
