Since 1991, the BHV Marais belongs to Galeries Lafayette. In a press release published this Friday, February 17, the latter announced that they have entered into exclusive negotiations with the Société des Grands Magasins (the SGM Group) to sell the building, as well as its goodwill. The acquisition by the SGL Group should be effective at the end of 2023. Estimated amount of the transaction: 500 million euros.
Fortunately, the 1,300 employees of the BHV Marais do not have to fear for their jobs, which should be kept. Born 167 years ago, the building, first known as the Bazar de l'Hôtel de Ville, still has many years ahead of it! In an article in Le Parisien, Frédéric Merlin, the future owner of the premises, announced that he wanted to"capitalize on the deep DNA of the BHV which is DIY, home, decoration, culture and leisure".
However, he does not exclude closing the less profitable departments, but fashion, restaurants and leisure will remain the primary aspect of this new BHV. Without rushing into luxury, warns Frederic Martin, who wants the products to remain accessible to the greatest number.
