Swimming in the Marne has been forbidden since 1970, and given its condition, few Campinois would accept to take a dip in its current state. But the Minister of Sports, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, wants to change things. As explained in an article by France Bleu, the last phase of the work on a depollution station was launched this Wednesday, February 22, in Champigny-sur-Marne (94). Its objective is to treat rainwater to make it healthy and return it to the Marne, where swimming will then be possible.
8,000 cubic meters of water can be stored and treated there. The ministry assures it, it will be a depollution without chemical product. It will eliminate 99.9% of the bacteria present in the water. The project is scheduled to be completed after the Paris Olympics, in the summer of 2024. It remains to be seen if the deadlines will be met.
Renovation or improvement work for the Olympics is becoming more and more numerous. The surroundings of the Eiffel Tower, the Champs Elysées, the Place Pigalle, many famous areas of Paris will get a facelift before the massive arrival of tourists for the event.
