Have you ever wondered? The Vélib' self-service bicycle hire scheme has stations all over Paris, as well as in 55 communes around the French capital. But how far does it extend? It's hard to say which station is the furthest from Paris, as it depends on which point you consider to be the absolute center of the city, but two stations clearly stand out, and they're located on opposite sides of the city.
To the east of the Île-de-France region, station number 45003 is the furthest from Paris. It is located on Avenue du 11 Novembre 1918, in Champigny-sur-Marne. To the west of the region, station number 51008 is the furthest away. It's on Boulevard des Martyrs de Châteaubriant, in Argenteuil. The distance between these two stations is almost 36 kilometers. That's the maximum distance you can cycle from one station to the other.
Among the towns farthest from Paris where Vélib' stations can be found are Bondy and Choisy-le-Roi. It remains to be seen whether this information will still be true when the new Vélib' stations are deployed throughout the Île-de-France region, doubling the current fleet.
