Work continues on public transport systems in Paris and the Ile-de-France region this spring. While disruptions are expected on RER lines A and B, the metro is not spared either. These include lines 6, 10 and 14.
Other disruptions to be expected? On metro line 5, which runs between Place d'Italie and Bobigny, traffic will be partially interrupted during the spring vacations. In detail, metro line 5 will be closed between Bastille and Place d'Italie stations from Tuesday April 15 to Wednesday April 23, 2025 inclusive, announces RATP on its website.
During these 9 days of partial closure, 5 stations on metro line 5 will be completely closed to passengers. These are the Quai de la Râpée, Gare d'Austerlitz, Saint-Marcel, Campo-Formio and Place d'Italie stations. Bastille station, which connects with lines 1 and 8, will be the temporary terminus for the duration of the work.
In particular, the work will involve renewing the turnouts. "These interventions are essential to guarantee the safety of passengers and preserve the durability of the structures", reminds RATP. The Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens also points out that"certain temporary arrangements will be put in place in the vicinity of the Quai de la Rapée station".These specific works will require the installation of a craning zone on Place Mazas, at Quai de la Rapée level, from April 10 to 28, 2025. A fence will be installed around the area in order to secure the public space", warns RATP.
So how do you get between Bastille and Place d'Italie during these 9 days of partial closure? There are several possible solutions, starting with walking. But beware: it all depends on how far you have to walk. RATP has also announced the introduction of a replacement bus service during the nine days of partial closure. These replacement buses will serve the closed stations in both directions. Buses will run every 3 minutes during rush hour and every 10 minutes during off-peak hours. Click here to find out more about replacement bus schedules and stops.
RATP also reminds us that the project to restructure the Gare d'Austerlitz interchange is continuing this spring, impacting the Gare d'Austerlitz station. As a result, the connecting corridors between metro lines 5 and 10, the RER C and the SNCF station will remain closed until 2027"at the latest". But line 10 remains directly accessible"from the usual access points on Boulevard de l'Hôpital", while RER C and the main lines are accessible from the SNCF station.
