A complicated summer for public transport in Paris and the Île-de-France region. Due to a number of construction projects, the daily commute for Paris and Ile-de-France travelers - who are forced to stay in the region in July and August - is no picnic. After partial closures on metro lines 14, 12, 5 and 6, as well as on RER lines A and C, it's now the turn of RER line B to put its passengers through a difficult time.
The prefecture of the Île-de-France region, Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM), Transilien Voyageurs and SNCF Réseau are inviting passengers using the northern axis of RER B to postpone their journeys due to a scheduled all-day closure from Saturday August 12 to Monday August 14, 2023 inclusive.
" To enable the RER B to be more flexible in the event of incidents on its lines (passenger incidents, breakdowns, etc.), traffic will be exceptionally interrupted from August 12 to 14, 2023 inclusive, for work carried out by SNCF Réseau. This interruption in traffic will also provide an opportunity to carry out certain work required for the deployment of the CDG Express shuttle ", explains IDFM in a press release.
All stations between Paris Nord and Mitry-Claye and between Paris Nord and Aulnay-sous-Bois (in the direction of Charles de Gaulle airport) will not be served during the three-day closure.
More specifically, the stations at La Plaine - Stade de France, La Courneuve - Aubervilliers, Le Bourget, Drancy, Le Blanc - Mesnil, Sevran-Livry, Vert-Galant, Mitry-le-Neuf and Mitry-Claye will not be accessible to passengers from August 12 to 14, 2023 inclusive.
However, trains will continue to run on the southern axis of RER line B. On this axis, all stops after Paris Gare du Nord will be served. IDFM Mobilités points out that the underground lines from Paris Gare du Nord will also operate.
Finally, a replacement shuttle bus will serve stops between Aulnay-sous-Bois and Aéroport CDG 2, enabling users to reach Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle Airport. " If you need to travel to or from Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle airport during these 3 days of RER B traffic disruption, we advise you to plan your journey using the SNCF Transilien route planner ", adds Île-de-France Mobilités.
This closure on the northern axis of RER B will also cause disruption on Transilien line K. On Saturday August 12, Sunday August 13 and Monday August 14, 2023, no trains will be running on this line between Paris Gare du Nord and Mitry-Claye. However, traffic will be normal between Mitry-Claye and Crépy-en-Valois, and replacement buses will be in place between Paris Gare du Nord and Compans.
To cope with this exceptional closure, Île-de-France Mobilités has announced an exceptional plan to reinforce the bus service. Regular bus routes will be reinforced, and over 600 buses divided into four routes will serve the exceptionally closed stations.
Stops served by the four alternative bus routes:
In addition, carpooling will be offered to all Ile-de-France residents, even those without a Navigo subscription. Find out more here.
" Despite maximum mobilization and the introduction of replacement buses during the three days of closure, it will still be impossible to transport all regular RER B passengers by road," warns Île-de-France Mobilités.
