Travelling from Paris, or need to get from one station to another? To make your journey easier, here's a practical guide to the capital's stations and airports from Gare Montparnasse.

Gare Montparnasse is one of the six main stations serving Paris. Located between the 14th and 15th arrondissements, this station has been in operation since 1840! It connects Paris with the West of France, as well as with Normandy and the Centre-Val-de-Loire region via the TER. It is the terminus of the Atlantic high-speed line.

The station is therefore an important gateway to Paris from the south-west of France. To access other parts of the country, or even to leave the Hexagon, however, you have to leave Montparnasse and go to one of the capital's other stations. This can be a complicated journey for those unfamiliar with Paris.

Fortunately, a number of metro and bus stations are accessible in the basement or on the outskirts of the station. But you still need to know which line to take! To help you get around, follow this guide.

How to get to Gare du Nord from Gare Montparnasse

Getting to Gare du Nord from Montparnasse is easy. Take metro line 4, direction Porte de Clignancourt, and the journey is direct to Gare du Nord. Not counting the wait on the platform, and if there are no problems on the line, the connection takes just 25 minutes.

Two bus lines also link the two stations in around 45 minutes: line 39 and line 91 (Gare Montparnasse to Gare du Nord terminus). All you need is a T+ ticket (2.10 euros each) for either metro or bus.

To Gare de l'Est from Gare Montparnasse

To get from Gare Montparnasse to Gare de l'Est, the itinerary is the same: get on metro line 4 towards Porte de Clignancourt, and take the direct route to Gare de l'Est. The same goes for buses: lines 39 and 91 also stop at Gare de l'Est. Once again, all you need is a T+ ticket costing 2.10 euros.

Getting to Paris Austerlitz from Montparnasse station

The journey from Montparnasse to Austerlitz is not direct by metro. From Montparnasse, first take line 6, direction Nation. At Place d'Italie station, change to line 5, direction Bobigny Pablo Picasso, and get off at Gare d'Austerlitz. This journey takes around 22 minutes.

By bus, line 91 takes you directly to Gare d'Austerlitz in 30 minutes. Here again, you'll need a T+ ticket costing 2.10 euros.

Getting to Paris Gare de Lyon from Montparnasse station

There are two routes for this connection. The quickest is to take line 4 (to Porte de Clignancourt) to Châtelet, where you change to line 14 (to Olympiades) to Gare de Lyon. If line 14 is not available, take line 4, then change at Châtelet for line 1, and get off at Gare de Lyon. This itinerary takes about 30 minutes.

As for the bus, you've guessed it: take line 91 to Gare de Lyon - Diderot, for a 30-minute journey. Don't forget to validate your 2.10 euro T+ ticket.

From Montparnasse station to Paris Saint-Lazare station

The Montparnasse - Saint Lazare journey is simple and direct: take line 13, direction St Denis Université or Asnières-Genevilliers, and get off at St Lazare station after a journey of around 20 minutes. The bus journey is just as direct: take line 95 from Montparnasse to Gare Saint-Lazare in 30 minutes.

From Montparnasse station to Paris Bercy - Bourgogne station

Line 6 is the easiest way to get to Gare de Bercy from Montparnasse. Take the metro towards Nation, and get off at Bercy station. You'll need to walk a little to reach the station. The journey takes around 25 minutes. Alternatives by bus are possible, but take much longer: it takes around 50 minutes to make the same journey, with lines 91 and 87.

Getting to Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport from Montparnasse station

Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport is just over an hour by public transport from Gare Montparnasse. To link the two, take metro line 4 from Montparnasse, then the RER B to Saint-Michel Notre-Dame. Alternatively, take metro line 6, then the RER B. You then change at Denfert-Rochereau, and the journey time is roughly the same. This journey costs 13.55 euros.

To Orly airport from Montparnasse station

To get toOrly airport from the Paris train station, the quickest and easiest way is to take line 4 or 6 to Denfert-Rochereau, then the Orlybus connection bus: 13.30 euros and 40 to 45 minutes travel time for this connection.

Getting to Beauvais airport from Montparnasse station

Paris Beauvais airport is further away: by public transport, it takes almost two hours to get there from Gare Montparnasse. But you can still get there! Start by taking metro line 13, direction Asnières-Genevilliers. Change to line 1 at Champs-Elysées Clémenceau, then get off at Neuilly - Porte Maillot. From there, get off at the Porte Maillot bus stop, located in the Pershing parking lot, where you'll find theAéroport Paris-Beauvais shuttle bus.The whole trip should cost 19 euros one way.

And if you have a little time during your connection, take advantage of it to discover the restaurants close to the station.
