The more the weeks go by, the closer we get to commissioning Île-de-France's first urban cable car ! This unusual mode of transport, called Câble 1 (C1), is expected to be in operation in Val-de-Marne by 2025. While the prototype was unveiled in June 2023 at an event attended by Valérie Pécresse, work on the project continues apace.
The first series of cabins has been ready since August 2024!"The cabins ready for take-off are cleaned, packed in a protective sock and stored until their departure" indicates Île-de-France Mobilités on its website. A month earlier, the roof had been installed at the Pointe du Lac station. And in a few months' time, this roof will be completely planted with sedum, geraniums and savory to give this future Cable 1 station a green touch.
What's the latest on the famous pylons that will be needed to bring Île-de-France's first aerial tramway into service? The very first, 43 meters high, was installed at the Limeil-Brévannes station in October 2023. A total of 30 pylons are to be installed along the route of Câble 1. As of May 17, 2024, 23 had already been erected.
In concrete terms, five stations will welcome travelers between the towns of Créteil and Villeneuve-Saint-Georges. More specifically, it will be possible to connect the Pointe-du-Lac station on metro line 8 in Créteil with Villeneuve-Saint-Georges (a distance of 4.5 km) in just 18 minutes, all from the air. These 100%-accessible, 10-seat cabins will fly over no fewer than four communes in the Val-de-Marne region of the Paris region: Créteil, Limeil-Brévannes, Valenton and Villeneuve-Saint-Georges. To ensure a fast mode of transport, Île-de-France Mobilités is announcing less than 30 seconds between two passages of the cabins.
The names of the 5 future Cable 1 stations were also unveiled. By 2025, users will be able to travel between the two termini, named Pointes du Lac and Villa Nova, and alight at Limeil-Brévannes, Valenton and La Végétale stations.

This mode of transport, billed as " attractive, innovative and accessible to all ", is designed to " open up the towns of Limeil-Brévannes, Valenton and Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, giving their residents easier access to the heart of the département, its major facilities (universities, hospitals, etc.) and the rest of the Île-de-France region ", explains Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) on its official website.
When it goes into service in 2025, 11,000 passengers a day are expected to use Cable 1, making it Île-de-France's leading aerial tramway!
