In view of the orange alert announced by Météo France for several departments in the Île-de-France region, SNCF Réseau has decided to impose a "traffic stop" for the morning of Thursday November 2. The Transilien lines concerned are
The aim of these "traffic stops" is to prevent trains from becoming involved in potentially dangerous disruptions that could strand passengers on a train. We understand the importance of this preventive measure, as this exceptional weather event requires major adaptation of transport plans to ensure the safety of passengers and staff.
In other regions, TER trains will be suspended in Brittany, Normandy, Hauts-de-France, Pays de la Loire and Centre-Val de Loire from Wednesday evening until Friday morning. As for TGVs, although 90% are expected to operate, there will be no service on the Paris-Le Mans and Paris-Nantes lines. Météo-France is also concerned about heavy rainfall in a short space of time on already damp ground, and warns against the risk of falling trees that are still leafy.
The departments affected by this vigilance are Yvelines, Val d'Oise, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis and Paris. Travelers who are able to do so are strongly advised to postpone their journeys, telecommute instead, and find out about train traffic before heading to stations.
According to Météo-France, storm Ciaran will hit the Île-de-France region with high winds. Vigilance will be in effect from 1 a.m. this Thursday, November 2. Gusts expected in departments under orange vigilance will vary between 70 and 90 km/h. However, gusts of up to 100-110 km/h are expected locally. Although the departments of Essonne and Seine-et-Marne are under yellow alert, there is still a risk of violent gusts of up to 100 km/h.
Storm Ciaran is not confined to the Paris region. It began to affect other French regions on the evening of Wednesday November 1. Finistère, Côtes-d'Armor and Manche are under red alert, with gusts exceeding 170 km/h.
Everyone is advised to act with caution, follow the advice of the authorities and keep up to date with developments. Safety must be our top priority at this time of weather disturbance.
