Ciaran is set to be a major storm, and the Yvelines region will not be spared. Expected to hit during the night of Wednesday November 1 to Thursday November 2, it will also have an impact on the Paris region, despite being less exposed than the Atlantic regions. As a precautionary measure, several of the region's most emblematic sites have decided to close their doors.
Thus, on Thursday November 2, the Gardens and Park of the Château de Versailles, the Domaine de Marly and the Domaine de Trianon will not be open to the public. There's also no point in visiting the Noël Coypel, Peintre de Grands Décors exhibition, which will be closed this Thursday. Fortunately, for those who had planned a visit, the Château de Versailles itself remains open.
For those who had planned to visit Thoiry Zoo, notably for its Lumières Sauvages, please note that the site will also be closed this November 2. Refunds are available for those who have booked their tickets.
From 4 a.m. until 2 p.m., we can expect gusts in excess of 100 km/h in the west of the region, even approaching the gates of Paris. The east of the region may be less affected, but caution is still called for. And that's not all: light rain is expected overnight, which could be followed by potentially stormy showers in the morning.
The danger is well known: these violent gusts can cause tree branches to fall. As Guillaume Séchet, renowned meteorologist and founder of the Météo-villes website, points out, these trees are still covered with their leaves, increasing the wind load and the risk of branches falling or even being uprooted. However, he reassures us that below 120 km/h, major damage is unlikely. His advice? Avoid walks in the forest.
So, if you're looking for a good plan for the day, we strongly advise you to opt for indoor activities. The weather reminds us just how unpredictable nature can be. Let's stay vigilant and take advantage of these moments to (re)discover cultural treasures sheltered from the gusts.
