Although the storm is particularly expected in the northwest of the country, with gusts reaching 150 km/h in Brittany, Essonne is also preparing to be hit. Météo France is forecasting gusts approaching 100 km/h in the département.
Following in the footsteps of the city of Versailles and the Hauts-de-Seine department, several Essonne towns have announced the closure of parks as a precautionary measure.
Yerres is one of the first towns to announce the closure of all its parks on Thursday November 2. On X, the microblogging platform, Mayor Olivier Clodong declared: "Météo France is forecasting winds of 40 km/h and gusts of up to 90 km/h from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday November 2. The safety of our citizens is a priority, which is why we have chosen to close our parks".
The town of Longjumeau has also followed suit, announcing the closure of all its parks on Wednesday November 1 and Thursday November 2, 2023. In addition to this measure, municipal officials have reassured residents that bulky items will continue to be collected, while advising Longjumellois to deposit only items unlikely to fly away.
Vigilance is the order of the day, and other communes could follow Yerres and Longjumeau's example. To stay informed, Essonniens are invited to regularly consult the official websites of their local councils, or their pages on social networks such as Facebook or X.
In view of the storm threat, Météo France recommends a number of actions to be taken: protect your home and property exposed to the wind, stay informed thanks to local authorities, limit your movements, redouble your vigilance against falling trees and flying objects, do not intervene on roofs, and place generators outside your home.
In these troubled times, caution is more important than ever. The beauty of the raging elements may fascinate, but it's essential to prioritize your own safety and that of your loved ones. While we wait for Storm Ciaran to dissipate, we must remain vigilant.
