Notre-Dame de Paris: free online ticketing to open soon

Decidedly, 2024 is a rich and busy year for the capital. After the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the City of Light will be back in the spotlight in three months' time. Indeed, it's at the beginning of December 2024 that the Notre-Dame de Paris edifice is due to reopen its doors, more than five and a half years after the fire that occurred on April 15, 2019.

In detail, an official inauguration is scheduled for December 7, with the handover of Notre-Dame by the State owner to the assignee, followed by the awakening of the organ and a liturgical celebration including a blessing. The following day, December 8, 2024, visitors will once again be able to enter the building. A first mass will also be celebrated in the cathedral.

Early estimates suggest that Notre-Dame de Paris will attract even more visitors, some 15 million a year. Before the fire, the figure was around 10 million. To cope with the large number of visitors expected, the diocese will shortly be opening a platform enabling everyone to reserve a free access slot to the cathedral online. Le Parisien reported on Friday August 30. This free online ticketing service is not yet available. However, as the daily newspaper explains in a press release, " this service will be available to both groups and individuals, free of charge, as soon as the cathedral reopens ".

However, groups will not be able to visit the building when it reopens. According to Le Parisien, they will have to wait another 6 months before (re)discovering Notre-Dame. For the first few months, access to the cathedral will be reserved for individuals.

In the meantime, restoration work continues at Notre-Dame de Paris. Several important milestones have been reached in recent months, including the overhaul of the bells and the repositioning of the Angel with Trumpet. The chevet cross has been repositioned at the top of the choir frame, while the spire, art furnishings and large works of art have been returned to their rightful place, as has the famous cockerel.
