The future Paris 2024 Olympic Games are shaping up to be truly spectacular! In March 2020, the International Olympic Committee validated the plans put forward by the Paris 2024 committee to host the additional sports of urban sports and surfing. And as expected: the Place de la Concorde in Paris will be the venue for the urban sports competitions.
Paris 2024 's stated aim is to"take sport out of traditional stadiums", to provide an unforgettable experience for athletes and hundreds of thousands of spectators around the world. This Tuesday, June 8, 2021, the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee unveils the first images of the Olympic site that will be set up on Place de la Concorde for the duration of the Olympics.
The site promises to be"spectacular, popular, more urban and open to all", with a capacity of 37,000 people per day. And it won't just be BMX Freestyle, skateboarding and breaking events that will be taking over the Concorde Olympic site! The Paris 2024 Cojo is also planning"concerts, cultural exhibitions and other sports demonstrations" on site. A true Olympic showcase in the heart of Paris, dedicated to urban sports!
Furthermore, this IOC decision consolidates the Paris 2024 committee 's determination to organize exceptional Games in spectacular venues. And to demonstrate the potential that a country like France can have in the organization of this major international event. Among the sports and disciplines involved are climbing, skateboarding, breakdance, BMX Freestyle and three-a-side basketball.
For Paris 2024 President Tony Estanguet, interviewed by Le Figaro, it's all about showing "the best of France". According to him, the IOC has given its "enthusiastic support" and has been "reassured by the sporting, financial and environmental arguments".
An ambitious project, which at the same time plans to organize surfing competitions in Tahiti! Initially, these two new venues were not included in the plans sent to the IOC. After several months' waiting, the Commission finally validated the two additional sports projects, deeming that the athletes would be in the best possible conditions. We can't wait to get there!
