It's not every day that the Olympic flame passes through your home! This Monday, July 22, 2024, Essonne will be highlighted with the passage of the Olympic flame, four days before the opening of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games . This will be a historic opportunity for the 11 communes it passes through to showcase their heritage and their commitment to sport and inclusion.
The torchbearers include three women and three men, athletes and civil society players, who embody the values of perseverance, diversity and excellence:
The route starts at the Ile de Loisirs d'Étampes at 8 a.m., passing through the Place de l'Hôtel de Ville, the train station, the Tour de Guinette, the Square de la Libération, and ending at the Lycée Louis Blériot at 8.20 a.m. During the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, from July 26 to August 11, the Ile-de-Loisirs d'Étampes will be offering a range of sports activities (fencing, 3x3 basketball, badminton, modern pentathlon, wheelchair rugby, cecifoot, bungy pump, bungy yogi, pilates) and thrills (luge, adventure course, pumptrack...).
In Chamarande, the flame will set off from the village washhouse at 8:35 a.m., cross the Place de la Libération and reach the Château de Chamarande at 9:25 a.m.
The flame will leave Palaiseau town hall at 11:29 a.m., heading for Massy, where it will arrive at theOpéra de Massy at 12:11 p.m. after passing near the Parc de la Tuilerie.
A collective relay will take place in Marcoussis, departing from the Centre National de Rugby at 12:30 p.m. Jean-Charles Mascetti, president of the local rugby club, will carry the flame to the Pierre Camou stadium at 1:15 pm.
At 2:51 p.m., the flame will be on the Seine in Draveil, reaching Vigneux-sur-Seine, then Montgeron at 4:13 p.m., at the Réveil-Main traffic circle, site of the first Tour de France start in 1903. After disembarking on a pontoon at the Port aux Cerises leisure island, it will continue up boulevard du Général de Gaulle to Église Saint-Rémy, before heading for Vigneux-sur-Seine via boulevard Henri Barbusse.
The flame will depart from Parc François Mitterrand in Dourdan, passing by the town hall, Square de Great Dunmow and Église Saint-Germain-d'Auxerre, before arriving at the Château de Dourdan at 5:37 pm.
The final relay in the Essonne region begins at the Évry-Courcouronnes Genopole at 5:58 pm. The flame will pass through the Place des Droits de l'Homme et du Citoyen, the Cours Blaise Pascal, cross the A6 and the Francilienne, and reach the Robert Bobin departmental stadium at 7:20 pm.

Each stopover town will offer a variety of events to celebrate the passing of the flame, from sports demonstrations to historical exhibitions on the Olympic Games. The Robert Bobin stadium will host BMX, breakdance, 3X3 basketball and skateboard demonstrations from 3:30 p.m., as well as a concert to close the day.
Each stage of this route has been chosen to reflect the diversity and richness ofEssonne, with entertainment and special events planned to celebrate the spirit of the Games. The route will highlight Essonne as a key location for the preparation and celebration of the 2024 Olympic Games.
