Taking place from July 27 to August 4, 2024 for the Olympic Games, then from August 30 to September 7 for the Paralympic Games, the tennis and wheelchair tennis competitions are held at the prestigious Roland-Garros Stadium.
A brief history:
Tennis, a racket sport born in the 19th century, has evolved to become an essential Olympic discipline. First introduced at the Olympic Games in 1896, it was withdrawn after 1924 before making a triumphant comeback in 1988. The sport is played mainly in singles or doubles, on clay, hard or grass courts, with the aim of scoring points by hitting a ball over a net into the opponent's court.
As for wheelchair tennis, it was created in the 80s and included in the Barcelona Paralympic Games in 1992. Proof of its renown, all 4 Grand Slam tournaments include wheelchair tennis, while the ITF wheelchair circuit now includes over 150 tournaments.
