The countdown is on for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games: the capital is gearing up to host a large number of events in historic venues. At the Grand Palais, those lucky enough to have tickets will be able to watch the fencing and Taekwondo events.

It's hard to visit Paris and not come across the Grand Palais! Located just a stone's throw from the Champs-Elysées and the Pont Alexandre III, where the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics will take place, the monument hosts exhibitions and trade fairs all year round. After several years of refurbishment, the Grand Palais is now ready to host the Paris 2024 Olympic Games .

Built for the 1900Universal Exhibition by architects Henri Deglane, Albert Louvet, Albert-Félix-Théophile Thomas and Charles Girault, the Grand Palais is distinguished by its architecture, which blends classical and Art Nouveau elements, and by its imposing glass roof, which can be seen from the Paris rooftops .

The Grand Palais was designed to host major exhibitions. Since its opening, it has hosted major shows such as the Salon de l'automobile and the Salon des artistes français. The building regularly hosts contemporary art exhibitions, trade fairs and major cultural events, as well as sporting events such as the 2024 Olympics, fashion shows and shows. For example, Chanel regularly holds its haute couture shows here.

The monument has been undergoing work since 2021 in preparation for the 2024 Games. Pending its reopening, a temporary building called the Grand Palais Éphémère has been set up on the Champ-de-Mars to continue hosting events and exhibitions.

Here is the programme of festivities for the Olympic and Paralympic Games at the Grand Palais:

  • Fencing: July 27 to August 4
  • Wheelchair fencing: September 3 to 7
