On the occasion of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the French capital will vibrate to the rhythm of the various sporting disciplines in competition and welcome the best athletes of our time, across all sports.
A discipline renowned for its demanding endurance, the marathon is theultimate running event, the mythical distance of 42.195 km. Even more than the short distances (sprint or 10,000-meter type) that will be contested within the Stade de France, the marathon requires an immense course, over 42 kilometers long. For these Paris 2024 Games, the course has been designed to be symbolic above all, with a start at Paris City Hall and a passage in front of the gates of the Château de Versailles, in memory of the women's march on Versailles during the French Revolution, on October 5, 1789. Passing through a number of towns in the Paris region (Boulogne-Billancourt, Viroflay, Issy-les-Moulineaux...), the course has a significant altitude difference (over 400 meters positive): it will be the same for professional athletes taking part in the Games as for amateur runners who have obtained their Marathon pour tous numbers.
