This Friday evening, Paris exploded with glitter and music for the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games, with ne rain of stars (and rain at all) setting the stage alight! Céline Dion, Lady Gaga, Aya Nakamura... The crème de la crème performed live from the Seine. But how much did these superstars earn for their performances?
The rumors spread like wildfire: 2.7 million euros for 2 big stars, as Le Canard Enchaîné seemed to claim a month ago, or, more recently, 2 million euros just for Céline Dion, according to another media outlet ... In reality, these exorbitant figures are pure fantasy. The organizing committee (Cojo) has put the rumors to rest, stating that the artists took to the stage for pleasure, not profit!
"Contrary to information relayed in the media, the artists who will perform during the ceremonies of the Paris 2024 Games will not receive a fee for their performance," the Olympic organizing committee had announced in a press release last June.
So, it would appear that the stars gave of their energy, talent and charm, but their fee was ... zero! No cheque, just the sheer joy of being part of such a colossal event!
