There are only a few hours left before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games come to an end, and it's the race for the last few medals! This Sunday, August 11, France's Élodie Clouvel won silver in the modern pentathlon event, becoming Olympic vice champion for the second time.
Élodie Clouvel, a French athlete specializing in modern pentathlon, had already distinguished herself on the international stage, notably by winning the silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Before turning to modern pentathlon, she practiced swimming at a high level. Élodie Clouvel was also world champion in the mixed relay in 2013 and 2017, in duet with her partner Valentin Belaud. Her career has been marked by her versatility, making her one of the best French pentathletes of her generation, as she proved to us today by winning the silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

As a reminder, the modern pentathlon combines five disciplines: fencing, swimming (200 meters), equestrian (show jumping), and a combined event of pistol shooting and running (3,200 meters). Athletes accumulate points in each event. The starting order for the final race depends on the points obtained in the previous events, and the first to cross the finish line wins the pentathlon. The pentathlon ended with a laser run, a 3 km shooting race, in which Élodie Clouvel lost to Hungary's Michelle Gulyas, who now holds the new Olympic record. The silver medal is a great victory for the athlete who finished 6th at the Tokyo 2020 Games.
