Thor returns for new adventures! One of the most powerful Avengers is back in a solo film, Thor: Raganrok, broadcast this Thursday, August 31 on TF1, from 9.10pm. Directed by Taika Waititi, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Mark Ruffalo, Anthony Hopkins, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tessa Thompson, Jeff Goldblum and Cate Blanchett as the antagonist Hela, the goddess of death.
Deprived of his hammer, Thor is trapped on a planet ruled by the Great Master. To save Asgard from Ragnarok - the destruction of his world - a race against time is launched, and our hero must fight a friend, assemble a team and defeat Hela, the goddess of death. Thor will also have to find his father on Earth and uncover a secret from the past.
Our verdict
Thor: Ragnarok attempts to approach Guardians of the Galaxy in the tone of the film, with frank humor that's a little crude, but diabolically effective. The only regrets are a few clumsinesses and the predictability of some of the jokes. In terms of action, the viewer is well served with punchy scenes that follow on from one another.
Despite a few other shortcomings, such as characters that are underused or not used at all, and script choices that don't always make sense, Taika Waititi's feature-length film remains a good-quality, fairly funny, fresh and dynamic piece of entertainment. A delightful blend of action and humor, complemented by fine performances from Chris Hemsworth, who thrives on comedy, and Cate Blanchett, irresistible in the role of Hela, the hero's antagonist, in the madness that characterizes her.
